These descriptions are for the Command Department, which is represented by the color Red. The positions of the Command Department include:
Commanding Officer
Executive Officer
Second Executive officer
Yeoman
COMMANDING OFFICER
Appointed only by the Admiralty, this character has the responsibility of commanding the entire ship. All other characters are under his/her command. The character for the CO should have a professioanl personality, garner respect, and communicate with all characters. He/she should be able to work with the crew to accomplish dangerous or complicated missions.
In addition, the person who writes for and plays the CO is responsible for selecting new missions for the SIM, guiding the story line, overseeing and resolving player conflicts, recruiting new members, and maintaining the list server and website for the ship. He/she is the final authority for any decision for the sim. The player who takes a CO position should be able to manage groups of writers and give advice and encouragement to all players.
The Commanding Officer character usually plays on the bridge, but can be moved all over the ship and on some selected away missions. This person is one of the main characters in the SIM and is always heavily featured in all missions. The CO is the most time consuming position due to all the intra-story duties required of the captain.
EXECUTIVE OFFICER
This character is second in command after the ship's Commanding Officer. He/she is responsible for assisting in the command of the ship during the story and overseeing the SIM in the CO's absence. SIM administrative duties may be delegated to the XO by the CO as needs arise. The Executive Officer should be the right hand man to the Commanding Officer and capable of stepping in to run the SIM. The qualities that make a good CO, apply for the this position as well. Executive Officers are selected by the CO of the particular ship.
The XO plays mainly on the bridge, but like the CO, can be moved all throughout the ship and on most of away missions.
This is a command position that is heavily featured in nearly all missions and will see many opportunities for activity.
SECOND EXECUTIVE OFFICER
At times the XO must assume command of a Starship or base, when this happens the XO needs the help of another officer to assume his/her role as XO. The second officer is not a stand alone position, but a role given to the highest ranked and trusted officer aboard. When required the Second Officer will assume the role of XO, or if needed CO, and performs there duties as listed, for as long as required.
YEOMAN
The Captain's Yeoman is for Petty Officers who wish to continue as administrators. It is technically a non-Mate position. Use of this position is completely at the discretion of the Commanding Officer. File work, and sensitive message transport are but two examples of the Yeoman's possible duties. The Yeoman assists the CO in day-to-day duties that the CO would otherwise not have the time to do.
This is a specialist position that generally sees a low level of inclusion in most missions so is ideal for people with only a little time to post but still want to be involved.
