The USS Oberon is a group of online Star Trek fans who role play, or SIM, via e-mail. Through creative writing we tell a mutual story together that involves the USS Oberon and the characters which we create for ourselves to staff her. (A list of the character profiles is conspicuously placed on the main page.)

Members contribute to the story be adding small portions, called posts, to the plot when they wish and have time. Posts are simply mailed to our group's Topica account, oberon90015@topica.com, and that service forwards the post (or message) to everyone on the ship. (Our post archive is open to all and is accessible here.)

Other members pick up the plot line and continue it with their own posts. Some players post frequently, others do not. There is no quota to fill or order to follow. Players can post whenever they want and pretty much as often as they want.

Each player is represented in the story by the character that they create for themselves. Each character has a rank and a position/job on the ship. A player does not just control his or her own character; all players control all characters.
